Berlin Alexanderplatz


Alexanderplatz is a central square and traffic junction in Berlin. In the vernacular Alexanderplatz is named the short form: "Alex". The square is named and dedicated according to the Russian Tsar Alexander the first.

Since its reconstruction in the 60's, the whole square is reserved for pedestrians and daily frequented by more than 300.000 people.

The square was visited by the Russian Tsar Alexander I. on the 25th October 1805, and received its name accoding to his first name on the 2nd November 1805.

During the march-revolution in 1848 heavy combats took place at the Alexanderplatz.
