Berlin Kreuzberg
The city part of Kreuzberg is located in the district called "Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg".
According to the old postal code numbers, Kreuzberg is divided into two
parts: the bigger Kreuzberg 61, and the smaller but more famous SO 36.
During the time of the Berlin wall SO 36 was enclosed by three sides
and developed its own culture on the Eastern end of West Berlin.
The district was created in 1920 by a fusion of the areas of the
suburbs of Tempelhof, Southern part of Friedrichstadt, and a part of
the Luisenstadt.
Because of its turbulent history the city part of Kreuzberg obtained
famosity in the whole German speaking area. Kreuzberg became legendary
in the 70's and 80's by its squatter scene. Almost one third of
Kreuzberg are immigrants. There are a lot of Turkish people resident,
especially in the Eastern parts of Kreuzberg, in the neighbourhood
called "Wrangelkiez".
