Berlin Wall
The Berlin Wall existed from 13th August 1961 to the 9th November 1989.
The wall divided the city into two halfs: the Western part and the
Eastern part. The Eastern part belonged to the influence area of the
Soviet Union, and was the capital of the German Democratic Republic. In
the German Democratic Republic the wall was officially called
"Antifascist Protective Barrier".

The Berlin Wall was known as one of the most famous symbols of the cold war and the partition of Germany.
Many people who tried to get over the wall from the Eastern part of
Berlin the the Western part were killed. The exact amount of victims is
controversial. The informations sway between 86 and 238 cases of death.
