The official German name of the Zoo in Berlin is "Zoologische Garten Berlin".

The Berlin Zoo is located in the district Berlin-Charlottenburg and by 35 hectare one of the biggest zoos in Germany. By 14.000 animals in 1.500 different kinds, the zoo in Berlin counts to the zoos worldwide with the most different types of animals.
2,33 mio people visited the Berlin Zoo in 2005.
The zoo was opened on the 1th August 1844 as first zoo in Germany, and ninth in the whole world.
